An Honorary Professor title is appropriate for an applicant who has a current practice with the majority of their time spent in research of, or investigation and/or treatment of venous disease. The doctor will be expected to be a fully qualified practitioners who are no longer in training such as consultants, independent doctors or general practitioners with special interests. Although not necessarily head of department, they should have some seniority within their organisation. Nurses would be expected to be in a job predominantly related to venous disease (including the treatment of venous leg ulcers). Although not necessarily head of a department or group of nurses, the applicant should have recognisable seniority within their role. Scientists will be expected to be independent professionals who are no longer in training and to have a job predominantly related to research into or the diagnosis and/or treatment of venous disease. Although not necessarily head of a department or group of nurses, the applicant should have recognisable seniority within their role.
We would expect the applicant to be able to demonstrate their expertise in venous disease in their current role or research that they are currently undertaking.
We would expect the applicant to be able to provide information about presentations to national or international conferences on the subject of venous disease. We would expect there to be a history of presentations over several years including international conferences. We would expect the applicant to have been an invited speaker on more than one occasion and to have also been a moderator/chairman or similar at least one session of one conference.
We would expect the applicant to be able to identify their areas of speciality interest within venous disease and demonstrate this with a record of presentations or publications.
We would expect the applicant to be able to provide references of articles on venous disease including peer-reviewed articles on the subject of venous disease. We would expect to see a reasonable number of articles and peer-reviewed papers over several years with the applicant being the first or senior author in several.
It would be beneficial if the applicant has also has invited commentaries or other invited articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
We would expect applicants to be able to provide information as to peer reviews they have performed for journals to show they are current and accepted experts in venous disease.
